Arsenal supporters have criticized a player following their team’s defeat to West Ham United.
After Liverpool dropped two crucial points against Aston Villa on Wednesday night, Arsenal had the chance to close the gap to five points behind the Premier League leaders with a win.
However, despite playing in front of a packed Emirates Stadium, Mikel Arteta’s side struggled to break down a resilient West Ham defense.
The match ended in a 1-0 victory for the Hammers, with Jarrod Bowen scoring in the first half. Arsenal’s troubles were compounded when defender Myles Lewis-Skelly was sent off in the second half. As a result, Liverpool maintained their eight-point lead at the top with 12 games remaining.
On social media, Arsenal fans expressed frustration with captain Martin Odegaard, criticizing his movement during an attacking play.
One fan posted: “I don’t even know what to say about Odegaard anymore, I’m just sad.”
Another questioned: “Odegaard was literally running away, what was that movement?”
A third remarked: “State of the captain,” while another simply asked, “What was Odegaard thinking?”
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live after the match, former West Ham and England goalkeeper Robert Green described it as a major setback for Arsenal’s season. He noted their lack of attacking sharpness and praised West Ham’s disciplined defensive display.
Arsenal will look to bounce back on Wednesday night when they face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s next challenge comes on Sunday as they visit the Etihad Stadium to take on defending champions Manchester City.
