Arsenal have reportedly received a £112 million offer from PSG for an unexpected player, but the club is holding out for a record-breaking fee before agreeing to any deal.

According to a Spanish publication, Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly offered £112million for one of Arsenal’s players.

Arsenal’s championship hopes took another hit on Saturday when West Ham secured an unexpected 1-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium.

Following a lackluster performance against the Hammers, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told the BBC that their title aspirations aren’t entirely in his hands. He expressed deep frustration with the team’s performance and results, noting that they fell well short of the standards needed to compete for the Premier League, a shortfall for which he holds himself responsible.

The Spanish outlet Fichajes also reported that off-field disruptions were evident this week, as French giants PSG made an offer around £112million for Arsenal’s central midfielder Declan Rice. Notably, Arsenal set a club record by paying £105million to sign Rice from West Ham in the summer of 2023.

Fichajes alleged that despite PSG’s bid of £112million plus additional clauses, Arsenal are unwilling to let the England international leave for less than £133million—a sum that would mark a record sale for the club.

The publication further noted that although Rice has expressed his satisfaction at Arsenal, an offer from a club with the financial might of PSG is enticing for any player of his caliber. Nonetheless, Arsenal remain determined to retain their star midfielder, fully aware that keeping him is essential for sustaining a competitive team in both the Premier League and European competitions. At just 24, Rice is already considered one of the best in his position, and his increasing market value gives the Gunners strong bargaining power if they ever decide to sell him.

Throughout the season, Rice has been deployed both as a deep-lying midfielder and in a more advanced role. Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes recently voiced his uncertainty regarding the position where Rice is most effective. Speaking on The Overlap, Scholes remarked, “I’m somewhat disappointed with Declan Rice because he seems to have been placed in a role where his true identity is unclear. Is he meant to be that defensive holding midfielder, or should he be the one getting forward and scoring goals as some have suggested? I’ve never seen him in that attacking role. It appears he’s stuck in a bit of ambiguity about what he really is, even though Arteta seems to have a clear vision for him.”
