The contest World Cheese Awards celebrated its 36th edition a few days ago in Viseu, Portugal. The objective was to reward the best cheeses in the world. The 240 judges named this year’s world champion to the Traditional Solheira cheese, Queijo de Ovelha Amanteigado, from Quinta Pomar.
It is an unctuous 100% sheep cake, made by the Spanish Sonia Marroyo in a family cheese factory, as Rosa Molinero Trias told in her article in EL PAÍS Gastro. Of the 4,786 cheeses submitted to the competition, 894 won a bronze medal, 694 a silver medal, 308 a gold medal and 104 won the distinction of “super gold”. More information
